Privacy Policy

  1. Introduction
    • Brief overview of the payment options offered by the company.
      1. In store, customers can pay at the till. Online, customers can pay via  their computer or their smartphone device.
    • Statement on the security measures in place to protect transaction data.
      1. All stored data in databases is encrypted using AES-256, as required by PCI DSS. Lightspeed is a PCI DSS certified and validated Level 1 Service Provider. Your data will never be shared with a third party.
  2. Accepted Payment Methods
    • List of all accepted payment methods (e.g., credit cards, debit cards, digital wallets, bank transfers, cash on delivery, etc.).
      1. Cash, Interac Debit, Visa Debit, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Email Money Transfer.
  3. Payment Processing
    • Explanation of how payments are processed, including any third-party payment processors used.
      1. Payment will be charged at time of checkout. When a customer initiates an order, the system sends a request to the payment gateway. Upon receiving this request, the gateway processes it and, if successful, charges the customer and sends a callback to the system. When Lightspeed receives this callback indicating a successful transaction, the order is then registered as placed and automatically assigned the “Paid” payment status.
  4. Currency Accepted
    • List of accepted currencies for payment.
      1. North Edge Ice Sports accepts 169 currencies.
    • Details on how currency conversion is handled if applicable.

The Lightspeed E-series does not handle payments directly; this function is managed by the payment provider. Therefore, the conversion rates depend on the payment provider you use and the bank that issued the customer’s card.

When customers with non-Canadian cards place an order, the conversion rates are influenced by their bank. Lightspeed Payments sends a request to the cardholder’s bank, which then converts CAD to the local currency based on its rates. For example, if an order totals 100 CAD and the customer’s card is in Euros, Lightspeed Payments will request 100 CAD from the bank. The bank will then convert this amount to Euros based on its conversion rate. If the rate is 66.76 Euros for 100 CAD, then 66.76 Euros will be charged to the customer’s card.

  1. Payment Security
    • Description of encryption and security protocols used to secure payment information.
      1. All stored data in databases is encrypted using AES-256, as required by PCI DSS.

Lightspeed hosts its product infrastructure with multi-tenant, outsourced infrastructure providers. The physical and environmental security controls of our infrastructure providers are audited for SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, GDPR, FIPS 140-2, NIST 800-717, etc.

PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard ) is the global security standard for protecting payment card information. Lightspeed does not store, process, or transmit any cardholder data. We rely on PCI compliant third party service providers to handle transactions. This is attested by a PCI Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) yearly.

Lightspeed’s Cardholder Data Environment (CDE) is hosted on the AWS virtual private cloud (VPC) Infrastructure as a Service (laaS) platform across three availability zones in the AWS US East Region (us-east-1), two availability zones in Europe Central Region (eu-central-1), and three availability zones in the Australia Region (ap- southeast-2).
    • Certifications or compliances met by the payment system (e.g., PCI DSS compliance).

    2. Request a duplicate or detailed invoice by emailing cr@thenorthedge.co.
  3. Failed or Declined Payments
    • Common reasons why payments might fail or be declined.
      1. As we don’t process payments ourselves, we send a request to an online payment provider and receive their callback to place an order as successful. The payment can not go through if we don’t receive a callback from the payment gateway.
    • Steps for customers to take if their payment is unsuccessful
      1. Check your card details, contact your bank, or try an alternative payment method.
  4. Subscription and Recurring Payments
    • If applicable (***NOT APPLICABLE TO US), details on how subscription or recurring payments are managed.
    • Procedure for updating payment details for ongoing subscriptions.
    • Information on how to cancel recurring charges.
  5. Privacy and Data Use
    • Outline of how customer payment information is used and stored.
      1. Cardholder data that includes the customer name, address, primary account number (PAN), expiration date, and CVV2, CVC2, CID, or CAV2 is transmitted directly from customer browsers to the merchant’s (customer) selected payment processors via JavaScript or iFrames that are provided by the selected payment processors directly.

Lightspeed does not store or process cardholder data within its hosting environment. Lightspeed hosts the payment web forms and widgets that are displayed to merchant customer’s browsers; however, these web forms contain either JavaScript or iFrames provided by payment processor, and the payment card data is transmitted from the client browsers directly to the payment processor never passing through Lightspeed’s systems.
    • Details on sharing payment information with third parties, if any.
      1. Lightspeed does not store or process cardholder data, but provides payment applications that allow a customer to communicate directly with the payment processor. These payment applications can still impact the security of cardholder data, so Ecwid has chosen to include their entire payment application system within the scope of their Cardholder Data Environment validation assessment.
